Description:
Through a voluntary
and open approach, CSS places infants for domestic (U.S) adoption. Counseling
for birth parents and services before, during and after the adoption process
are also provided.

status who live or work within a one-hour radius of Ann Arbor may apply.

| Alternatives
to Domestic Aggression (ADA) |
Description:
The purpose of
ADA is to end domestic abuse in our community by working directly with
the perpetrators in an intensive educational arena where they are made
aware of their violent behavior. The program also offers "Crossroads,"
a program designed for younger perpetrators between the ages of 17 to 22.

Grandparents/Mentorship Project |
Description:
This program
is designed to help international students living in Washtenaw County become
more acclimated to our customs and community by matching the student with
a volunteer "mentor." The two then establish a personal relationship that
may include social activities, practical day-to-day advice, friendships
and an increased appreciation of diverse cultures.

If you are an international student currently living in the Ann Arbor
area and would like to take part in this program, please click this

to attend a meeting where you will have a chance to meet your mentor. Please
fill out the questionnaire to the best of your ability because the selection
process is based on these profiles.

Health Services |
Description:
Certified social
workers counsel families, couples and individuals to provide an in-depth
assessment and short-term, Solution-Focused therapy designed for the specific
needs of each client. The Agency offers extended evening hours.

First |
Description:
Families First
provides four to six weeks of intensive, in-home crisis intervention services
to families impacted by child abuse and/or neglect. On-call 24 hours a
day, social workers provide clinical services as well as material assistance.
This two-pronged approach is essential to ensure home stability and the
safety of all family members.

Department of Human Services are eligible for this program.

Description:
Father Pat's
provides pregnant and parenting teens a safe, nurturing home environment
and helps them develop the education and living skills they need to become
self-sufficient. The residential program houses a maximum of five families
at any one time.

Description:
This program
provides Washtenaw County residents food and personal care items on a monthly
and/or emergency basis. Clients are also given referrals to other agencies
for clothing and other critical services.

as Parents (GAP) |
Description:
GAP offers caregiving
grandparents (and other relatives) the opportunity to share common experiences,
to better understand their grandchildren's special needs, and to access
resources and information from community professionals. The program provides
support groups, educational workshops, counseling, children's groups, and
family activities.

County with parental responsibilities for raising a minor child is eligible
for service.

Families |
Description:
First-time parents
learn effective parenting skills by receiving supportive services throughout
their pregnancy up to the time their child is five years old. Healthy Families
is a home-based program emphasizing parenting and health education, goal
setting and resource referrals.

Expectant or first-time parents of children up to three months of age residing
in Washtenaw County are eligible for a screening assessment.

Support Services |
Description:
This program
is designed to enable Avalon Housing tenants to maintain permanent
housing and maximize their personal independence by providing on-going
and proactive support services as needed. Services include: assessing housing
support needs, developing and implementing individual housing permanency
plans, connecting tenants with appropriate community services, social activities,
crisis intervention, and transportation assistance.

| Interfaith
Volunteer Caregivers |
Description:
Trained volunteers
offer respite assistance for families caring full-time for a homebound
older adult. Volunteers visit with the chronically ill family member two
to four hours per week providing relief and personal support for caregivers.
Program staff also offer training and support to local parishes interested
in developing their own respite program.

To be eligible, either the caregiver or homebound family member must be
age 60 or older. Those interested in volunteering may call for further
information.

| Joseph's
Family |
Description:
Joseph's Family
is an adult grief recovery program that incorporates the Catholic Faith.
Individuals who lost a loved one due to death are invited to attend this
peer group, which is coordinated by trained facilitators. Each series runs
for two hours once a week for a total of five weeks. The program is co-sponsored
by local parishes: Immaculate Conception-Milan; Pious Union of St. Joseph-Grass
Lake; St. Andrew-Saline; St. Joseph-Dexter; and St. Thomas the Apostle-Ann
Arbor.

participate. Joseph's Family is not an immediate response program.

| Lifeline |
Description:
Lifeline is a
personal emergency response system available to frail seniors and disabled
adults who live alone and are at risk for having a medical emergency. When
an emergency arises, the subscriber pushes a button on the device that
is worn around the neck or wrist. The signal is sent to the Lifeline monitoring
center which evaluates the situation and responds by calling a designated
person or an ambulance if necessary.

to schedule in-home installation of the Lifeline equipment. Service is
available in Washtenaw and Livingston Counties, with limited services in
surrounding counties.

| Medicare/Medicaid
Assistance (MMAP) |
Description:
Through MMAP,
older adults learn how to navigate the health care system to obtain entitled
benefits, including Medicare and Medicaid supplemental insurance, HMOs,
and long-term care insurance. Help is provided in individual sessions at
client homes, hospitals, community centers, and by telephone. The program
also offers group presentations to the public.

Outreach |
Description:
Parish Outreach
helps parishes develop and strengthen their social ministry programs. It
also keeps parishes up to date on the services offered by CSS and seeks
parish input for ongoing program development. Services provided by Parish
Outreach include the administration of the We CARE, Joseph's Family and
Rainbows programs; Catholic social teaching education, and CSS liaison
to parish personnel.

| Post-Adoption
Services |
Description:
Post-Adoption
Services offers ongoing support, education and counseling to all involved
in the adoption circle--birth parents, adoptive families, and adoptees
of all ages. Bi-monthly support groups are open to the public. CSS also
provides search and reunion services for those individuals who either made
adoption plans or were adopted through our Agency.

| Pregnancy
Counseling |
Description:
The Pregnancy
Counselor provides support and referrals for pregnant clients. When parenting
is not an option, the program works closely with Adoption Services to offer
on-going counseling, support groups and workshops for birth parents who
choose adoption.

| Rainbows |
Description:
Rainbows is a
grief support program designed for children and adolescents in families
experiencing death or divorce. It enables participants to better understand
their new family unit, assists them in building a stronger self-esteem,
and directs them toward a healthy resolution of the changes they have experienced.
All groups run for 13 weeks and are facilitated by well-trained, caring
adults. The program is supported and co-sponsored by three Washtenaw County
parishes: St. Joseph-Dexter; St. Thomas the Apostle-Ann Arbor; and
St. Mary-Chelsea.

& Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP) |
Description:
RSVP is dedicated
to channeling the talents of adults 55 and older interested in helping
their community. The program provides volunteer placement services to ensure
a challenging and rewarding experience. To support their efforts, volunteers
receive accident and liability insurance, training opportunities, newsletters,
transportation reimbursement, and recognition for service. RSVP volunteers
assist more than 100 non-profit organizations throughout Washtenaw County.

Assistance |
Description:
Specially-trained
volunteer tax preparers help low-income seniors and disabled adults receive
Michigan tax credits (Homestead Property, Home Heating) and file simple
income tax returns; appointment required. Tax preparation sessions
are scheduled throughout Washtenaw County at subsidized and limited-income
senior housing facilities; at senior centers; and at the CSS Older Adult
Services office in the Senior Health Building. Home visits are available
as needed.

Description:
Teens Living
Independently With Kids (TeenLINK) is a support and educational program
that assists pregnant or parenting teens under the age of 19. Connecting
young parents to medical, mental/community health, housing, budgeting,
and parenting resources is the focus of the program with the goal of helping
young parents live successful, independent lives.

Child Advocacy Center (WCAC) |
Description:
WCAC is a coalition
involving Catholic Social Services, Washtenaw County law enforcement and
prosecutors, health care professionals, and the Department of Human
Services which enables young sexual abuse victims to receive comprehensive
medical, psychological, and legal assistance at one site. This one-stop
approach minimizes the trauma to children and families by offering: crisis
intervention services; coordinated case management between medical, law
enforcement and mental health professionals; counseling assistance; and
emotional support while the case goes through the legal system.

| We C.A.R.E. |
Description:
We C.A.R.E. is
a communication and relationship enhancement program for engaged couples
sponsored by CSS and the Family Ministry Program of Catholic Charities.
The highly acclaimed program is designed to teach couples communication
skills and techniques for handling conflict and promoting intimacy in a
